Are you passionate about health, safety, and environmental excellence? We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented SHE Advisor to join our dynamic team based in Plymouth or Exeter, covering the South West region including Devon, Cornwall, Somerset & Dorset. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in driving our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental performance across all areas of our operations. As the SHE Advisor, you will work closely with our SHEA Manager to ensure our company not only complies with current legislation but also continuously strives to improve our integrated management system, making our workplace safer and more sustainable.

You will play a key role in shaping and reinforcing a culture of health and safety at all levels of the company, providing essential support, guidance, and training to our teams on the ground, from senior management to frontline workers.

We are looking for someone who can bring a forward-thinking approach to SHEA compliance, with a keen eye for detail and a hands-on attitude. Your core duties will include:

  • Assist the SHEA Manager with continual development of the integrated Health, Safety and Environmental management system
  • Create and update SHEA templates using the company’s standard software systems
  • Develop, update and carry out Company level and Site Inductions
  • Complete SHEA Risk Assessments and COSHH assessments as required
  • Support development and review of Safe Systems of Work and Method Statements
  • Develop and carry out SHEA training and toolbox talks as required
  • Carry out SHEA depot, site inspections and audits as required
  • Carry out accident and incident investigations
  • Carry out for cause and random D&A testing as required
  • Attend regular operational SHEA meetings and quarterly Safety Rep meetings
  • Attend Client and Supply Chain SHEA meetings and forums as required
  • Provide robust SHEA advice to managers, supervisors and workers
  • Work with HR to review occupational health medical records as required
  • Support Procurement with the vetting of new contractor suppliers
  • Assist with Environmental compliance across the company
  • Assist with compiling the company’s carbon emission data annually

Experience & Skills:

  • A minimum of 1 year in a trainee role but must have obtained a NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent), and also be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word / Forms / PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Ability to work independently and to tight deadlines
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • Strong leadership skills to support a positive H&S culture
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience in Construction or Civil Engineering would be an advantage

Essential & Desirable Qualifications:

  • Driving license essential
  • CSCS / EUSR card essential
  • NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate (or equivalent essential)
  • Affiliate or Tech member of IOSH desirable
  • NEBOSH Environmental Certificate desirable
  • Asbestos Awareness training desirable
  • Streetworks certification training is desirable
  • Confined Space training is desirable
  • Member of IEMA desirable
